The Battle of the Bath: How You Can Make Bathing More Fun

Home/Parenting/The Battle of the Bath: How You Can Make Bathing More Fun
When it comes time for a bath, you may find that your little ones are not in a particularly cooperative mood. Making bath time a fun and educational experience can help a child look forward to their bath, instead of fighting you every step of the way. Every opportunity you get to enrich a child’s environment should be taken advantage of. This is especially true if you are a busy mom, because as you know, multitasking is the name of the game. Here are a few ideas to make bath-time more enjoyable and even educational for your baby.

Water Paints

One fun way to make bathing a fun learning experience, is by the use of water paints. Water paints are non-toxic water based paints that children can use in the bath to paint the walls of the tub, their hands, or anything else. These paints wash right off when they get wet. This activity can be very entertaining, especially for very young children. You can also use bath crayons or markers for a similar effect. Just be careful to sample a bit of the paint on the wall of your tub before letting your kids go to town, because sometime these paints can leave behind a light stain, depending on what materials your tub is made of.

Foam Letters or Shapes

Another clean, fun, and mentally stimulating bath activity is the use of foam letters. These floating letters adhere mess-free to the sides of the tub when they get wet. Toddlers can practice singing the alphabet as a distraction while you get them clean. Letters like this can either be purchased, or easily made by cutting them out of foam. You can also cut out things like numbers, shapes, and animal silhouettes. This is a very clean and easy to store bath-time activity. When it comes time to clean up, you can simply stack the letters or shapes in a pile or even stick them up on the wall.

Rainbow Water

This may be one of the easiest ways to make bath time exciting. All it takes is a few drops of food coloring added to warm bath water to turn it from a boring bath to a colorful splash pool. You can drop in the colors red, blue, and yellow in a line to create a temporary rainbow effect. Young children love watching the vivid drops of color swirl and then blend in to their bath water. This can be a great way to teach your little ones about their colors, and even show them which colors mix together to form new ones. Be sure to add the food coloring to a full tub to avoid any residue or staining.

So there you have it! These are few simple and fun ways to make bath time more enjoyable for young children. Hopefully some of these activities can help busy mothers to entertain their babies and get them excited about bath time.
