There are certain questions you need to ask and answers that need verifying. Below you will find 5 questions that need to be covered on the very first visit you make for you and your baby.
1) You may have had a successful delivery, but there are still things you need sorting out. Some first-time mothers have questions about something called “jaundice”. You need to get the answers. Sometimes jaundice does not show up right away. Sometimes the signs do not show up until a few months afterward. Ask your doctor to investigate if you have any concerns about it.
2) You need to find about proper nutrition. You will definitely have opinions being offered family and friends. This is common. What you need is to talk to your doctor. He will know for sure what sort of diet you should be feeding your baby.
Ask your doctor about breastfeeding. Do you have concerns over using milk or some other kind of formula? Talk to your doctor. Are you having any issues with your breastfeeding? Discuss them with your doctor right away. Do not put this on hold. Sometimes the smallest thing can mean a lot to someone else. It can definitely mean a lot to your baby. There may be a reason why you feel uncomfortable during breastfeeding.
3) Most mothers have questions regarding their nipples. It is very common for new mothers to have sensitive nipples. There are creams out there. Which ones do you use? Find out from your doctor. Some creams may not be suitable for your body chemistry.
Are you already using one? Find out if it is the right one. The wrong nipple cream can cause issues for a mother, things like skin irritation and/or infection. Do not shrug this off. Some of you may have developed a yeast infection on your breasts. This happens a lot to new mothers. Talk to your doctor about the right precautions to take with regards to resolving the issue.
4) Ask your doctor about napping and sleeping. Your baby needs both and there is a difference. How long should your baby be napping for during the day? When is the right time to put your baby done at night for sleeping? Every child is different. What works for your friend is not going to necessarily work for you. Your doctor will know for sure.
Find out how to prevent things like SIDs when your baby sleeps. Find out what you should have in your baby’s crib at night to help them sleep. Each baby requires something different. What happens when your baby does not sleep. Ask your doctor.
5) Ask questions involving bath time, elimination, support, and your baby’s development.
There are many questions to ask during your first appointment, but they all need to be answered. Be patient. Ask each question one at a time and allow your doctor the time and chance to explain everything to you.
A happy baby is a healthy baby!
